Alessi Kitchenware Fun

If you are looking or craving for fun, unique contemporary designed kitchenware that is sure to bring a smile to your face every time you pick it up,  then Alessi Kitchenware could be for you.

The Alessi Company was established in 1935 by Alberto Alessi’s grandfather on Lake Orta, in the Italian Alps, close to Switzerland. The area has a long-standing tradition in wood and metal handicraft. Alberto’s grandfather developed virtually all of the products which appeared in the Alessi catalogues between 1935 and 1945. The Alessi Company prides itself in its unique ability to create the finest in contemporary design in different product types, styles, and price levels.

Today, Alessi does not employ in-house designers, and prefers to work with independent and external talents who remain free from the corporate influence. The fun designs speak for themselves and the current catalogue is the result of Alessi’s collaboration with over 500 designers from all over the world.

Alessi’s fun kitchenware includes the Bunny & Carrot Paper Towel Holder, Parmenide Parmesan Grater, Cico Egg Cup, Ship Shape Butter Boat, Magic Bunny Cocktail-Stick Holder, Chiringuito Cooler and Girotondo Napkin/Letter Holder

Alessi Chiringuito Cooler

On the subject of parties, the Alessic Chiringuito Cooler could be the most unusual yet practical wine cooler you have ever come across. Designed by Ron Arad the Chiringuito Cooler is made of thermoplastic resin and can hold two bottles along with water and ice.

It is designed to either sit on the table or hang from the edge of it with its non-slip rubber plug on the end of the handle. I wonder how the designer came up with that idea.

It is priced at £22.95 reduced from £27 and available in a choice of three colours red, dark blue and Red Burgundy.

The Alessi Museum

It is no surprise that the Alessi designs have attracted the attention of museums of applied arts and industrial design from all over the world, and there have been many exhibitions featuring Alessi’s collections. Alessi products can be found as permanent museum collections through the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Celebrating its long history in innovative design, and its vast and fascinating body of prototypes and constant experimentation over the years, the Alessi Museum is open to researchers, scholars, journalists and students. Designed by Mendini, the Alessi Museum can be visited by appointment.
