The Robert Welch Company is synonymous with the design of beautiful, functional, award winning and affordable cutlery. The family run business based in both Chipping Campden and Warwick was established by the late Robert Welch R.D.I., M.B.E. over 50 years ago. Robert Welch cutlery is widely recognised as one of the finest collections in the world.

Robert Welch a leading British designer craftsman learnt his trade at Birmingham College of Art where he trained as a Silversmith. He attended the Royal College of Art in 1952 where he specialized in stainless steel production design. In 1955 he became a design consultant for Old Hall Tableware whose products were one of the most desirable household items in the sixties. Robert Welch won a design award for the Campden range toast rack in 1958. The Old Hall Campden cutlery, Alveston range (re-launched as RW11 under the Robert Welch brand) and Old Hall Super Avon, which included an ultra modern tall coffee pot, are today popular collector items. In 1965 he was awarded the accolade Royal Designer for Industry.

Exhibits of his work

Robert Welch’s most important commissions can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Canterbury Cathedral and No.10 Downing Street. Exhibits relating to Robert Welch can also be seen at the Court Barn Museum, Church Street, Chipping Campden GL55 6JE and enthusiasts can view his design archive by appointment.

The Robert Welch cutlery designs are generally available in 4 set sizes. The Robert Welch 24 piece set contains six basic place settings of knife, fork, spoon and teaspoon; the Robert Welch 42 piece set has 6 place settings of table knife, table fork, side knife, side fork, dessert spoon, soup spoon and tea spoon; the 56 piece allows for 8 place settings and finally the Robert Welch 84 piece set provides for 12 full place settings. Robert Welch spoons and forks are made from the finest 18/10 stainless steel and Knives are made from a specially hardened stainless steel to maintain a keen cutting edge.
