Nigella Lawson Appetiser bowl-set

First of all you need to get your appetisers ready. Nothing beats a good bowl of Olives.

The Nigella Lawson Appetiser Bowl Set comes from Nigella’s living kitchen range. The black ceramic set of little dishes on a platter is perfect for serving h’ors d’oeuvres. The perfect gift for someone who likes entertaining.

The Nigella Lawson Appetiser Bowl Set costs £34.50

If Olives are not your thing then bread usually works well. The Guzzini Vintage Green Bread/Fruit Basket will happily hold your freshly made crustly wholemeal loaf.

This two tone green basket from Guzzini suitable for bread or fruit, is made of a double layer of high quality plastic resin and forms part of a collection called ‘vintage’.

The Guzzini Vintage Green Bread/Fruit Basket cost £17.50

Plates

Navigate vintage dot blue melamine plates

The most ideal plates for picnics are the Navigate Vintage Dot Blue Melamine plates. Made from melamine these plates are light weight. As part of the new vintage range ideal for summer dining.

Use them in the garden, on the patio, for picnics or in the caravan and boat.

Navigate Vintage Dot Blue Melamine Plates - £2.60 for large plate

Salad days

Salads and picnics were made for each other.

The Define Salad bowl and servers are part of a range of contemporary hand carved wooden serving pieces by Define that are perfect for entertaining. Made of Mango wood the bowl is 18cm deep and 30cm wide at the top, large enough for a substantial tossed salad.

Something refreshing to drink

No picnic would be complete without something to drink. Whether you are out with the family or a romantic afternoon with an intimate friend or, lots of friends you need something to freshen you on a summer’s day.

Kids

Liz Million dinosaur drink bottle

Lots of water, cordial or juice. Ever heard of the Liz Million range?

My children love eating from their very own lunch bag. They will sit still for almost 15 minutes with the lunch bag propped on their laps. So you could try the Liz Million Bug mania lunch bag and the Liz Million Dinosaur drink bottle.

Enjoy the Perfect Pimm's recipe with the the Perfect Pimm's Jug and Glasses.

The hot weather has arrived and we Brits like our Pimm’s. Whether you are lounging around at Wimbleon; you’re enjoying a day’s racing at Ascot or BBQ’ing with your friends, Pimm’s really is the refreshing summer’s day drink that is enjoyed year after year.

However, I know a few friends and barman for that matter, who shall remain nameless, that have made several Faux pas’s when it comes to creating the perfect recipe for a great Pimm’s.

So for all of you summer folk who enjoy outdoor living here is my Perfect Pimm’s recipe.

Hairy Bikers Large Jug

The Perfect Pimm’s Recipe

How to make the perfect Pimm’s

Start with a good Jug. I like the Hairy’s Bikers Large Jug. It comes in Blue or Cream and hold 2 Litres. We are selling the Hairy Bikers Large Jug for £20.20 with no shipping charges. That is cheaper than John Lewis or Amazon.

The Hairy’s Bikers Large Jug - £20.20, with free delivery

Now add;

1 part Pimm’s No1
3 parts chilled Lemonade
Add some Mint,
half a chopped cucumber,
1 chopped apple
1 sliced Orange and 3 Strawberry’s

Optional ingredients:

Half of one lemon and lime

It’s all in the delivery

LSA Coro Leaf

For the perfect Pimm’s you need the perfect glass. One of my favourites is the Coro Leaf Highballs by LSA. At £15 for a set of 4, these long drinking glasses hold 425ml and stand 14.5cm’s high. They have hand painted bases in four different shades of green from lime through to emerald are designed to add a touch of playful cheer to any drinks occasion.

Bread in one form or another has been with us since the earliest of times. A millstone used for grinding corn was found that is thought to be over 7500 years old.

So the art of the Baker is one of the oldest around.

Since those early days bread has morphed into a variety of different forms. We have it, sliced, in puddings, as white or brown. We like Nan bread, Garlic bread and Chapatti. Specialist breads include, High-fibre, Gluten free, mixed-grain, Lavash, Flat, hearth and Bagel. And this list goes on and on. Some of us even prefer to make our own.

We Brits like our bread so much that we consume nearly 12 million loaves per day* Source - The Federation of Bakers.

We like to treat the staple food of the British diet with respect these days so we can store, cut and serve it up nice and fresh.

Bread Bins

Nigella Lawson bread bin

All shapes and sizes are on offer here. Some of my personal favourites are the Joseph Joseph and the Nigella Lawson range of bread bins

Nigella Lawson Bread Bins

Designed by Sebastian Conran, the Nigella Lawson Bread bin is 44cm’s long. A beach wood lid that doubles as a chopping board.

Available in cream this ceramic bin will suit most kitchen types.

Joseph Joseph bread bin

Joseph Joseph Bread Bin

I simply love this Joseph Joseph range of products, which includes the striking bread bin. Made from Melamine, this high quality bin is hygienic and easy to clean.

It comes in several colours, red, white and black. Very stylish.

Chopping Boards

Whilst the two bread bins above say you can use the beach wood lid to slice your bread, their designs are just too nice to spoil. So here is a run down of what chopping boards are available - perfect for slicing bread on.

Hairy Bikers Chopping Board

Hairy Bikers large chopping board

Virginia really likes the Hairy Bikers and their Large Chopping board. Simple in its execution, you can see that this beech board is classic, unfussy chopping board.

It measures 38cm in length with the legend “A cut above the rest” burned on the side.

Joseph Joseph Chopping Board

The Joseph Joseph Index Chopping Board is very stylish. The boards are enclosed in an ABS storage case that has a non-slip base.

The Index feature allows you to quickly recognise which type of food you which to cut. Would best suit a modern kitchen.

It’s the World Cup and it’s Fathers Day. Here is the perfect Father's gift from On The Table. The Dartington Ultimate range of drinking glasses a perfect gift for Father's Day.

It’s the World Cup and it’s #FathersDay. So if your budget doesn’t stretch a 50 in Plasma TV. Here is the next best thing that came to mind. Drinking glasses – in particular the Dartington Ultimate range of glasses.

There are three to choose from in the range. The Dartington Ultimate Beer, Cider or lager glass. Here are my impressions of the glasses.

Dartington Ultimate Beer glass

The Dartington Ultimate Beer Glass

The Dartington Ultimate Beer Glass is an absolute joy to hold. It is quite a large glass but it feels quite easy and comfortable to hold. The top of the glass has a lip that apparently helps the beer right the right part of your palette and I’m reliably informed makes a difference with the type of drink.

The base is again quite large which help prevents the beer from Over warming. Nice touch.

The Glass is designed by Matthew Persson and the gift tube packaging includes a beer mat. I like if you have a beer drinker in your house this glass would be a really nice gift for Fathers Day.

Dimensions: 158mm 57cl?Unit: Single

Price: £15.00

Dartington Ultimate cider glass

The Dartington Ultimate Cider Glass

On a hot summers day I will always lean towards a good cider. Ice cold I just find it is more refreshing than a beer or lager. If you are looking for a Father’s Day gift for a Cider drinker then I would seriously consider the Dartington Ultimate Cider Glass.

Not as bulbous as they beer glass it is more elegant with a straighter edge to it and slightly taller. It holds less liquid than the beer glass, but hey the exercise to the fridge will be good for you.

As usual with Dartington and the beer glass they have thought of the little things to help make like a bit better. The base is oversized to prevent warm cider and there is a slight lip to help with getting thetaste just right. You would be surprised the difference a good glass makes to the taste and smell of your tipple.

Dimensions: 178mm 50cl?Unit: Single

Price: £15.00

Dartington Ultimate lager glass

The Dartington Ultimate Lager Glass

As I have aged, gracefully or not, my taste in Lagers has changed. I now prefer tastier and dare I say it Continental lagers. So the Dartington Ultimate Lager Glass would be a really nice choice for Fathers day.

It’s the shape of the glass that helps release the flavours of the lager. The glass is better suited to premium lagers as it’s slightly oval-like shape helps release the flavours.

Dimensions: 168mm (h) 44cl?Unit: Single

Price: £15.00

The perfect choice for #FatherDay

Choosing a gift for Father’s day can sometimes be a difficult choice. On the Table has a wide range of Glassware, kitchen and tableware that can help make the decision a little easier.

The History of Dartington

Dartington’s glass making history dates back to 1967 when a group of Swedish glassmakers bought their skills to rural North Devon to start a very different glass company.

Today, Dartington is the only remaining major UK Crystal and Glass manufacturer producing quality products for an international market.

Glassware for Living In a busy world of conformity it’s good to know that some things are still special.

In the first of our mini reviews we take a look at a couple of kettle designs by Alessi. We are often asked in the shop - “You know that Alessi Bird Kettle - well which one is better?” - so we thought we would create a short precis of the pros and cons of each.

Alessi 9093 Electric Kettle

Alessi 9093 Electric Kettle

When you first pick up the Alessi 9093 Electric Kettle you notice it is quite different from your average appliance. This kettle oozes class, and has the looks of a collector’s piece.

It is a well designed eye catching cordless electric kettle with an easy to use on/off switch. And you will find room for cable storage under the electrical plate.

The neat and tidy design will fit the smallest space on your kitchen worktop, though for me this quality design deserves prominent central billing among your kitchen accessories.

I like the easy to grip hand and adore the little bird whistle, (although sadly this little bird does not sing as the kettle automatically turns off as it comes to the boil).

The kettle can hold 1.5 Litres of water, enough to make 5 cups of your favourite brew.

The highly polished stainless steel body is easily cleaned and just needs a quick regular polish to maintain the shiny sparkle.

The kettle is a very good quality long lasting iconic item, and in my opinion its well worth spending just a little bit extra to get this great design into your kitchen.

The Alessi 9093 Electric Kettle is priced at £ 128.00

Alessi 9093 Stove Top Kettle

Love the look of the Alessi Electric Kettle but want a more traditional stove top version?

Alessi 9093 Stove Top Kettle

Well here we have the stylish Alessi hob kettle. It’s made of light stainless steel with a bird whistle - and yes it does whistle this time!

Not only a beautiful art deco style kitchen accessory but it’s also very functional and a joy to use. The magnetic steel heat-diffusing base is suitable for all types of stoves, and, a big plus for busy people, it boils quickly so you can enjoy your ‘cuppa’ in no time.

The ergonomically designed handle of the Alessi 9093 Stove Kettle is easy to grip and both it and the little bird whistle are made of ivory style cream PA. The kettle is easy to clean, with just a quick regular rub with a cloth keeping it looking just like new. If you enjoy the sound of a whistling kettle when boiled, then fill the kettle up to just below the spout line, and wait for the bird to sing.

A couple of words of advice for users: Don’t fill above the spout line as that can damage the bird whistle. Also after the kettle is boiled you should not place the empty or under filled kettle back onto the heat source as this can cause irreparable damage to the base.

All in all, I think this is a great design and perfect for a traditionalist kitchen. I wouldn’t mind betting that once you’ve tried this kettle you’ll wonder why you ever settled for anything else.

The Alessi 9093 Stove Kettle is priced at £ 85.00

Your Feedback on the Alessi 9093 Kettle

If you have either one of these iconic Alessi Kettles we would love to hear your feedback.

If you are anything like me choosing a wedding present can be an anxious affair. Here is our top 10 list of ideal wedding gifts.

So you have been invited to a wedding. You know the couple well; they’ve been of yours’ friends for years. It’s going to be a lovely day and you can’t wait. There’s just one problem - How do you choose the right wedding gift?

If you are anything like me, at first sight of the invitation anxiety begins to fill you up, simply because you are not sure what to get the lovely couple. I worry desperately about what to choose.

Here is my top ten wedding gift ideas fit for any wedding and budget.

We all love Jamie Oliver

Ever since the naked chef I have been a big fan of Mr Oliver. Several years ago he branched out into selling his own branded kitchenware, cutlery and tableware. Designed by Jamie and manufactured by Royal Worcester, these good quality items are much sought after and look fabulous on any table.

With such a fantastic range to choose from it’s easy to get a bit lost. My recommendation would be the Fluted Blue Range.

Fluted blue sauce jug

1) Jamie Oliver Fluted Blue

The Jamie Oliver Fluted Blue range is a 12 piece set brings style and colour to his new range and it is wonderful to see a contemporary twist to some traditional shapes.

Specific items within the range include;

The Fluted blue sauce jug; crafted in stoneware, the duck egg blue tones has a subtle colour palette that enhances its interesting shape. The sauce jug is microwave and dishwasher safe and holds 1.5 pints.

The Flute Blue Mug light. This Practical vintage looking mug is both elegant and practical. Again microwave and dishwasher safe it holds 400ml and is perfect for holding coffee on a Monday morning.

Fluted blue small bowl

This robust little bowl is perfect for breakfast. 17cm in diameter the Fluted Blue small bowl will hold a goodly amount of cereal of pudding and just looks great.

2) Robert Welch Cutlery

Cutlery and wedding go hand in hand and Robert Welch is synonymous with the stuff. Established over 50 years ago, this family run business based in Warwick knows a thing or two about great design.

Designed by William Welch, The Robert Welch comet range is made up of 18/10 stainless steel. It’s clear as soon as you hold any and all of Robert Welch’s cutlery they are special. Formed from a single ingot of especially hardened stainless steel that maintains a cutting edge. It is weighty and very comfortable to hold.

Robert Welch Comet Cutlery has received Design Awards at the Tendence Fair in Frankfurt.

3) Signature Knife Block & Knives in Black
